ANYONE HAVE THE SOCKET CARD FOR REALTIME HOOKUP AND THEN BUY A NEW COMPUTER AND FIND THAT THE OLD CARD SLOTS ARE BEING PHASED OUT AND THE NEW ONES ARE CALLED "EXPRESSCARD SLOTS"???????????   I CANNOT HOOK UP MY REALTIME CABLE UNLESS I USE WIRELESS, WHICH HAS BEEN UNRELIABLE.

Howzabout an Express Card Adapter?

Hi, April.

Were I in your shoes, I would call a large computer store (or my local computer guru) and ask about express card adapters.

They never (well ... mostly) introduce new stuff like that without providing an adapter or *something* ...!

Good luck ....

Express cards

April,

I purchased a new Dell laptop in the summer and ran into the same problem.  I have looked high and low for an adapter and to no avail.  We have a Micro Center store here that is what I call a geeks-on-steriods computer store and when I went in and asked them, their first response was,  "You bought a Dell, didn't you?"  They said that Dell put the new Express Slot in their laptops and very few vendors of various kinds of cards are migrated to the Express Cards and there were no adapters on the market at that point.  I haven't checked recently.  I even called Dell to see if they had an adapter and of course they don't.

Still have a question

Glen,

I guess I'm just not the sharpest tool in the toolbox here but I don't see that anything at that site is what I'm needing.  I presently have a PCMCIA card (my wireless Sprint card) that I need to use with my laptop that only has the ExpressCard slot.  So I am thinking that I need an adapter that plugs into the ExpressCard slot on the computer into which I will then plug my Sprint card.  Is there something on this page that solves that dilemma that I'm just overlooking?

Same problem

I had the same problem as you.

I bought this adapter http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=128&pid=1032 from Siig and it works fine.

I'll monitor this post, if you can't get to site, I'll try something else.

Good Find ...!

Steve --

My deadline for getting an answer to my e-mail about this has come and gone ... and still no answer!  If they ever do answer, I'll still post their message/link; might be interesting for price comparisons, at least.  Of course, I'm not holding my breath in anticipation, though. :o\

Hmmm ...! Good Question!

Chuck--

First, my apologies for not seeing your question sooner; sometimes new things just don't show up for me.

That said, I took another look at the page I linked ... and I don't see what *should* be there to solve your dilemma!  I did, however, find an e-mail address, and I just sent an e-mail asking about that.  I will copy-and-paste the answer when it comes in.

PCMCIA gone

Is there a reason you just do not use a USB adapter with a serial port?  I am just wondering if they have been found to be unreliable.  We have never had a problem.

Linda
