Like many others I awaited the arrival of the Passport. Now that it has arrived it has more than I need. I have been writing to my laptop for many years. At this point in my career, reading glasses on the tip of my nose, I not only rely on my laptop screen, I need it. I have managed to accumulate a lot of "stuff" that I bring along with me to all jobs. As a consequence my concern nowadays is to lighten my load, so I'm looking for lightweight smaller equipment. After the long waiting period for the Passport's arrival the answer to my question is probably laughable.
Have you considered a trimmed-down version of the Passport with just the basics? Your screen is too small despite its advances. It may be nice for some but I need my laptop screen. I need to get my case up over the heads of other commuters on a train and reach the overhead rack with poor leverage. I want a paperless writer with USB, suitable memory, wireless connections. A writer with modern electronics in a lightweight trimmed-down style a third of the price of a Passport would fit the bill.
I'm with you. Until last spring I used a Stylus, about 5.5 lbs. I had seen Mark Kislingbury in February with a LightSpeed and got one in May. It's like carrying an Etch-a-Sketch (sp?). I have a powerful Lenovo x61s 3lb laptop such that if I'm not dealing with exhibits or doing realtime, I can show up with a satchel and a lapdesk and life's doable. Did a trial in a very strange courtroom where the jury box was between the judge and the witness (it was a jury trial) and wrote for a week and wasn't any worse for the wear, surprisingly. Unfortunately they're having difficulty producing LightSpeeds at the moment. I used Bluetooth during that trial such that I could run up to the bench with relative ease. I've been on Stenovations about their producing them, but they've got some issues with production of them at this point. I hope that gets rectified soon. Might find a used LightSpeed somewhere. I've REALLY got to get my glasses prescription changed so I can see the Autobrief suggestions! Ugh.
