Hardware Recommendations
Eclipse Steno | AccuCap Steno For stenographic writing, we recommend a business-class system with:
The system should be paired with a solid-state drive (SSD)—now standard in most modern laptops—for faster performance and greater reliability. Multiple USB ports are recommended. If you’re using an older stenographic writer, you may also need a serial port or a compatible serial adapter (PC card or USB-to-serial). If you plan to use Boost or Boost Flow locally, please refer instead to the Eclipse RSR hardware recommendations below, as the requirements are different. EclipseVox | AccuCapVox For voice writing, we recommend a high-performance system with:
The system should be paired with a solid-state drive (SSD)—now standard in most modern laptops—for faster performance and greater reliability. Dragon 16 and a professionally configured expert system are essential. For best results, background processes should be kept to a minimum to ensure the system’s full resources are dedicated to realtime processing. If you plan to use Boost or Boost Flow locally, please refer instead to the Eclipse RSR hardware recommendations below, as the requirements are different. RAM
Eclipse RSR uses Docker to locally run its speech engine in a contained environment. When both Eclipse and Docker are active, RAM usage can exceed 10 GB. With other programs open, 32 GB ensures smooth performance. Storage
Advice to Macbook Users We do not recommend using a Mac for Eclipse RSR. Eclipse Steno and EclipseVox require an Intel-based Mac (i5 or i7) with at least 16 GB RAM and Windows 10 installed via Boot Camp. Boot Camp allows your Mac to boot directly into Windows, providing a more stable experience. We do not support Parallels, as it has caused system freezes, writer disconnects, and device compatibility issues in our testing. Note: M1 and M2 Macs are not compatible, as they cannot run x86-based Windows. For best results, use a dedicated Windows laptop.
