Voice Writing 101 Webinar: Participant Information
For those wishing to fully participate* along with the presenter, please be prepared with the following:
If you have TWO computers available:
1. You may wish to use one computer for listening and watching the webinar and have a second computer available with Dragon Naturally Speaking and Eclipse Vox loaded and ready.
2. Please have a means by which you can hear the audio from the webinar computer. You may wish to use the internal speakers of your computer or earbuds plugged into the audio jack or a headset.
3. Please have your voice input device ready and working on your Dragon/Eclipse computer. If you wish to use a stenomask, please have it connected and working properly. If you don’t own a mask, you may use any external microphone. Your computer’s internal microphone will probably NOT be acceptable.
If you have ONE computer available:
1. Plug in a stenomask and listen to the webinar through the computer’s internal speakers or use earbuds/headset for listening.
2. If you don’t use a stenomask, you may wish to use a headset which has a microphone. The Dragon software came with such a headset that would be appropriate. The better your headset microphone, the better your recognition will be, therefore, obtaining a USB headset with microphone would be best.
3. If you have sufficient ports on your computer, you may plug in both a headset with microphone and a stenomask. The choice is yours.
For optimal voice recognition, it is best to connect your stenomask or external microphone to your computer through an external sound card like the Andrea USB Adapter or the Andrea PureAudio. Both are available at: http://www.eclipsecat.com/catalog/audio/usb-sound-cards
PRELIMINARY READING ASSIGNMENT:
Please read chapters 1-4 of “Realtime Voice Writing” by Bettye Keyes prior to attending the webinar.
*Full participation is not required. If you do not own voice writing software or a stenomask, please feel free to attend the webinar so that you may learn how easy it is to voice write with today’s technology.
Technical difficulties may be avoided by closing all unnecessary programs and applications during the webinar. The Dragon Naturally Speaking software requires a lot of the computer’s resources and may cause the webinar to not stream properly if other applications are running or if your computer lacks sufficient RAM memory. Should you have difficulty with the webinar’s video or audio streaming, you may wish to close Dragon and take notes. A recording of the webinar will be available within 7 days of the live broadcast and at that time you will have the option of pausing the recording while working in Dragon.
